Compassion Project

Entrance to Rock Ledge Primary
Each Kindness by Jacqueline Woods

For this collaborative project, I was inspired by a huge art exhibition that was done by students in the Appleton Area School District. It was called the "compassion" project and students K-12th grade produced a 5 by 5 inch tile depicting what "Compassion" looked like in various art medias. I thought this was a great project to start the school year. It connected with the kickoff of PBIS in our primary building as well. I wanted to focus on kindness between all students. This book was a great way to kick off the topic and our students had a lot to say about compassion and kindness. Some students made connections to what was going on in the world. I had one student say "we should accept others no matter what the color of their skin is".
I had the students draw compassion on 6 by 6inch pieces of paper using markers and crayons. We added a heart made out of pipe cleaners to highlight their images.

This is really cool!!! I love this book and you took it and made it more than a book. Excellent!
